Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse | First Impressions Review

Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse Review

About this time last year, I was getting ready to jet off to the Caribbean to lie in the sun and drink rum punch, determined to get that enviable "oh where have you just come back from?" tan.  Sadly with no Winter sun trips booked in this year, I won't be getting a natural tan, but I recently received the new Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse.  So whilst I may not be in the Caribbean, I can still achieve that post-holiday glow and banish those January blues.  Keep reading to hear my thoughts...

Packaging...

As I've said before, we are all initially drawn in to new products by the packaging.  I love the nude, chic packaging of Bali Body's Self Tanning Mousse.  It looks clean and sleek, and I am really in to the matte finish, which is a nice change from other tanning brands I've used that tend to be white and glossy.  You know I love a product that looks pretty on my beauty drawers, and this is one of them.

The Details...

For £25.95, you get 200ml of tanning mousse which is a little pricier than other tanning products I have tried, but I am a strong believer of paying more for a quality product if it is worth it.  The tanning mousse is both cruelty free and vegan friendly, which is a huge plus for me, and I know for a lot of my readers as well.  The tanning mousse is enriched with nourishing oils and promises to give a streak-free, natural-looking tan, without the self-tan smell (that we all know and HATE).

Application...

Before trying out the tanning mousse, I was a little concerned due to the fact my skin is SO dry at the moment.  A mix of winter and aircon at work means my skin is suffering terribly and I really struggle with products, especially foundations and concealers, oxidising and going patchy on my skin.  I tend to tan more in the summer months so I was worried about how well this tanning mousse would apply to my pale, extra dry, winter complexion.  As always, I made sure to exfoliate and then moisturise my ankles, elbows and knees prior to tanning.
I used Bali Body's own black velvety soft Luxe Tanning Mitt to apply the tan.  This mitt for me is a game changer; it is so much gentler on the skin than any other brand I have used, and makes the application feel effortless.  It is big enough that you don't get awkwardly tanned hands and it is double sided which helps for those harder to reach areas. You can pick this up from Bali Body for £12.95.
I never apply self-tanner to my face, unless I am going on holiday and won't be wearing make-up but I did for the purpose of this review.  If you do want to apply the Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse to your face, I would recommend using a dense face brush (Morphe M439 or Zoeva 102 are my personal favourites) as it makes application a little more seamless and more precise, compared to a tanning mitt.
The tanning mousse is tinted so you can easily see where you have already applied the product and where needs a little more blending.  I found that the mousse blended so easily, I really did not have to put much effort in at all (bonus points there, because when it comes to a lot of beauty routines, I am pretty lazy).
One of the biggest pluses of the Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse is that it does not smell like self tanner.  The scent is neither overpowering or unpleasant, so if you wanted to apply and then pop out for the day whilst it develops, you can without people thinking you smell biscuit-y.

Developing Time...

You can leave your tan to develop for 1 hour for a healthy glow, or 4 to 8 hours for a more tanned appearance.  For the deepest tan, they recommend applying a second layer a half hour after the first.
I decided to apply one layer and let mine develop for just over 4 hours, but even within the first half hour or so, I already had a gorgeous, bronzed look to the skin.  The Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse is formulated with colour guide technology, so the product adapts to your skin tone, giving you the most effective, perfect tan.

Finish...

There is no denying that this tanning mousse gives you a flawless finish; my skin looked so healthy and hydrated, and you tan lovers will be very pleased to know, I was completely streak-free!
As the Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse is rich in Vitamin C, it gives you that post-holiday glow all year round, whilst the chamomile extract and coconut oil soothe the skin to help with any dryness that you may be suffering from.  My worries about it looking patchy on my dry skin were completely gone and I was so happy with the finished look after rinsing.  When I haven't had any sun for a while, I get very blotchy skin on my upper arms, and I love that the Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse helped to combat this and keep my skin soft and hydrated.
The best way I can think of to describe the shade of my tan after using the tanning mousse, is that it looks like when I've been on holiday in the sun.  I am quite pale but I do also have quite olive undertones to my skin which are really obvious when I naturally tan. The Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse enhances this and just gives me that same golden glow that I love in the summer months. I know so many of you are fearful of looking orange with self tanner, but you really do not need to worry about that with Bali Body.

A few days later...

Possibly my favourite thing about this tan, is it doesn't go patchy after a couple of days, it fades like a natural tan.  You don't need to worry about having to scrub it off and re-applying, you can just add another layer over the top if you want to. One thing I was really surprised about was that I didn't get a patchy armpit, which always happens to me when I use self-tanner.  I did find that it did come off a little bit in my cleavage, but not so much that it would be noticeable to anyone else.

I am excited to continue using this throughout the rest of Winter and in to the Spring and Summer months as well, and if you decide to give this a go, do let me know how you get on! You can purchase the Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse here and the Bali Body Luxe Tanning Mitt here.

I really enjoyed reviewing Bali Body's Self Tanning Mousse and I hope you enjoyed this post! I can also be found on Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter and I would love to connect with you all,

  4. I have super pale skin but hate the idea of a tanning bed so I've delved into the world of self-tanners but found most I've tried either didn't work, left horrifying streaks or just straight up smelled too funky for my liking. I've yet to find one I adore but this packaging is super appealing! You look great, btw. :)
